Your Team Responsibilities

The MSCI office is offering an excellent opportunity for a Production Support Engineer to join the Real Estate Site Reliability Engineering team.

The successful candidate will join a team of IT production engineers and will report to the Production Team Lead. The role requires close co-operation with the development and infrastructure teams to deliver first-class IT support and stability to the business. The team’s remit includes stability-driven software development, production support, incident and problem management, release management, development of production tools, IT compliance activities and running software projects to ensure long term stability

We are looking for someone with a software engineering background who is an excellent communicator and organizer, proactive and a good problem solver. This person must be comfortable with working on their own, working with business stakeholders and marshalling other teams to support complex software in a very fast-paced environment. We use cutting edge software development techniques and technologies, following the best practices of the industry.

Our applications and production processes run 24 / 7, so the successful candidate must be willing to be available and work out of hours and weekends

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1st 2nd and 3rdlevel technical support to business stakeholders, building strong relationships
  • Develop software engineering solutions to stability problems - including re-engineering the business software and developing tools to enhance stability
  • Own and manage support incidents end-to-end, working with users and technical stakeholders to communicate and resolve incidents
  • Lead response and coordination of production incidents, working with other technical teams and business stakeholders to bring incidents to resolution
  • Conduct root cause analysis on incidents and ensure that the problem management process is fully followed through upon
  • Work with infrastructure teams to manage and support server maintenance, downtime and testing
  • Build a knowledge database about common queries and solutions, amend application and service Run Books and general documentation
  • Execute and co-ordinate production deployments
  • Be on call evenings and weekends to support business critical incidents as and when required

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

  • 5+ years of total software engineering experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong troubleshooting skills / optimization skills
  • Proven ability to operate under own initiative
  • Proven ability to handle complex situations in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to lead initiatives end-to-end, coordinating others in order to deliver
  • Technical expertise in several of the following technologies
    • OO Development and Design
    • Java/Python technologies
    • Azure/AWS/GCP based Cloud development, migration and architecture experience.
    • Strong understanding across Cloud and infrastructure components.
    • Understands and can articulate the technical merits and value of Cloud computing
    • Linux / UNIX systems environment
    • Database development, stored procedures, views and triggers, Java DB coding
    • Datadog
  • Good support, implementation and delivery skills
    • Read log files to identify problems / issues
    • Check memory foot prints
    • Can identify long running processes on SQL Db, run sql commands to extract meaningful information
    • Stop/start servers on tomcat, stop / start SOA services
    • Archive process
    • Deploy war/jar files
    • At ease with GIT/SVN
  • Strong academic background with graduation in a relevant technical field
  • (Optional) ITIL Foundation Certified
