Your Team Responsibilities

We are looking for a motivated, detail-oriented professional to join our Time Series Data Operations team. In this role, you will help produce, validate, and deliver high-quality financial data across fixed income, derivatives, exchange-traded products, and equity analytics. You will work alongside experienced colleagues to learn MSCI’s data production processes, contribute to quality improvements, and develop foundational skills in financial data operations and AI-assisted workflows.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career who is curious about financial markets, comfortable working with data, and eager to grow in a fast-paced, globally distributed team. We value diverse perspectives and encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply.

Your Key Responsibilities

Data Production & Quality

  • Support daily data production workflows across multiple asset classes, including fixed income curves, futures, derivatives, and equity analytics.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on incoming vendor data and internally generated analytics, escalating anomalies and exceptions as needed.
  • Assist with investigating data quality issues such as pricing discrepancies, missing data, and analytical outliers.
  • Help maintain and improve production monitoring tools, dashboards, and sign-off processes.
  • Execute standard operating procedures for data validation, restatements, and client-facing notifications (DataMetrics).

Process Improvement & Automation

  • Identify repetitive or manual steps in production workflows and propose improvements.
  • Write and maintain Python and SQL scripts to support data extraction, transformation, and validation.
  • Contribute to the team’s AI adoption efforts by learning to use AI-assisted tools for documentation, triage, and code generation.
  • Support the onboarding of new data checks to MSCI’s QA Platform and assist with testing and validation.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with colleagues across Budapest, Monterrey, Mexico City, Manila, and Norman to ensure seamless data delivery across time zones.
  • Communicate clearly with senior team members, Research, Development, and Product stakeholders when issues arise.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
  • Contribute to team documentation, knowledge bases, and training materials.

Client & Stakeholder Support

  • Assist with Salesforce case resolution by researching client data inquiries and preparing responses for senior review.
  • Support vendor transition projects (e.g., Bloomberg, LSEG, ICE) by validating replacement data sources and documenting mapping logic.

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 0–2 years of professional experience in financial services, data operations, analytics, or a related field. Recent graduates with strong internship experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Foundational proficiency in SQL and Python (or willingness to learn quickly on the job).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, reliable work under time pressure.
  • Curiosity about financial markets and a desire to build expertise across asset classes.
  • Strong professional English communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a distributed, multi-time-zone team environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with or exposure to fixed income instruments, derivatives, or equity analytics.
  • Familiarity with market data vendors such as Bloomberg, Refinitiv/LSEG, or ICE.
  • Experience using generative AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot) in an academic or work context.
  • Exposure to Agile methodologies or project management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
  • Familiarity with data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, or cloud environments (AWS, Azure).
  • CFA Level I candidacy or similar early-career finance certification.
  • Interest in process automation, data engineering, or AI applications in financial data.

Quotes from Xavier Fernandez, Shobana Rocque, Shelah Marie Recide

“What excites me the most are the projects that use both the creative and the logical sides of the brain, because these are the projects that require creative solutions for operational or technological problems.

““When your talent is recognized, you’ll have many opportunities to grow, and a big part of that is feedback and mentoring.

Without the feedback I received, both positive and constructive, I wouldn’t have become the leader I am today. It really molded me to become a leader, because it gave me exposure and helped me learn about strategy and communication.”
