Research Analyst & Content Writer – Private Assets R&D

Job Reference:
2026-6047
Location:
New York
Category:
Research
Solution:
Private Assets
Role Category:
Hybrid

Your Team Responsibilities

MSCI Private Assets is seeking a Research Analyst & Content Writer to join its Research & Development team. This is a hybrid research and writing role for someone who combines strong quantitative and analytical capability with excellence in financial writing and the ability to communicate complex investment insights clearly and accurately.

Embedded within the R&D team, the Content Researcher acts as the analytical bridge between MSCI's underlying research and the content delivered to clients and the market.

The person in this role owns the content function end-to-end: they interact with MSCI’s private asset data across private equity, private credit, private real assets and related closed-end structures; draft and refine commentary; and maintain the technical integrity of the published output.

This is not an editorial or marketing-content role. It requires someone comfortable working directly with quantitative data and research methodologies, capable of reproducing and interrogating analysis, and possessing the judgment to identify when conclusions require additional evidentiary support.

Your Key Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Query MSCI private assets databases and generate original analyses and develop data insights relevant to clients, using AI in supervised form, working closely with the Private Assets R&D team and other subject-matter experts for methodology guidance and data validation.
  • Create clear, accurate charts and data visualizations that communicate analytical findings to clients and the market and adhere to MSCI standards.
  • Draft commentary on charts, data findings, and market trends (leveraging AI), translating quantitative analysis into clear written insights without losing precision or nuance; refine for accuracy, tone, and adherence to MSCI voice and standards.
  • Provide technical and analytical review of additional Private Assets content, including content produced by Product and Marketing, external writers, and AI tools, validating factual accuracy and consistency with MSCI data and methodologies.
  • Contribute to MSCI’s recurring publications of data-driven market insights, including original content and refreshed analyses that reflect current data and market conditions; coordinate related deliverables from the broader R&D team.
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing and Communications while maintaining clear accountability for the technical and methodological integrity of R&D-supported content.
  • Help establish scalable quality-control approaches as the volume of research and AI-assisted content increases.
  • Manage recurring publication commitments and multiple workstreams to agreed deadlines while maintaining high standards of analytical and editorial quality.

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to interrogate datasets, reproduce analysis, and critically assess whether conclusions are supported by the underlying data, along with the intellectual curiosity and confidence to challenge assumptions.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets and investment concepts; knowledge of private assets/private markets is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to explain sophisticated financial and quantitative concepts clearly and precisely.
  • Strong charting and data-visualization skills, with the ability to present complex data clearly and accurately.
  • Experience working with financial or investment data and producing research, commentary, or other analytically driven content.
  • Ability to work effectively with academically minded researchers as well as Marketing, Product, and other commercial stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to factual and methodological accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver against recurring publication deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience reviewing AI-generated content, or an understanding of the opportunities and risks associated with AI-assisted research and content production, would be advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in economics, finance, statistics, mathematics, or another quantitatively oriented discipline; advanced degree advantageous.
  • Relevant experience in investment research, financial analysis, economics, quantitative research, or research-led financial writing.
  • Experience within financial services, asset management, investment research, or financial-data businesses strongly preferred.
  • Private assets/private markets experience would be particularly valuable.
  • Strong proficiency with Excel and analytical tools, including charting and data-visualization tools; experience working with research databases and/or statistical tools would be advantageous.
  • Prior financial-writing experience is desirable but analytical capability and the ability to validate quantitative research are the critical requirements.
