Private Assets Index Research & Development – Research Lead

Location: Monterrey or Mexico City

Are you passionate about financial markets, data, and solving complex investment challenges? Do you enjoy building innovative products that shape the way investors make decisions?

At MSCI, you'll have the opportunity to work on some of the industry's most exciting challenges in private markets, helping develop the next generation of index methodologies and analytical solutions used by leading institutional investors around the world.

As part of MSCI's Global Research & Development organization, you'll join a highly collaborative team focused on transforming research into innovative products across Private Equity, Private Credit, and Real Assets. You'll work with cutting-edge datasets, develop new methodologies, influence product strategy, and collaborate with experts across research, product, and commercial teams to drive innovation in one of the fastest-growing segments of the investment industry.

If you're looking for a role where your ideas can influence global investment solutions—and where you'll work alongside world-class researchers and industry experts—we'd love to meet you.

Your Key Responsibilities

What You'll Do
  • Lead the design and evolution of innovative methodologies, classification frameworks, and analytical tools for MSCI's private asset solutions.
  • Own projects from concept to implementation, including methodology design, validation, documentation, and governance approval.
  • Transform complex research and data into practical insights that help clients better understand and navigate private markets.
  • Collaborate closely with Product and Commercial teams to develop solutions that address evolving client needs and market trends.
  • Present research, methodology enhancements, and product innovations to senior leadership, governance committees, and institutional investors.
  • Partner directly with clients to understand their investment challenges and help shape future product development.
  • Contribute to MSCI's thought leadership through research publications, market insights, and client-facing content.
  • Mentor junior researchers and help foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and analytical excellence.
Why This Role?

This is more than a research position—it's an opportunity to directly influence how the world's largest investors measure and analyze private markets.

You'll have the chance to:

  • Work on high-impact, globally recognized investment products.
  • Collaborate with experts across research, product development, and client-facing teams.
  • Solve complex analytical problems using large and alternative datasets.
  • Shape methodologies that become industry standards.
  • Gain exposure to senior leaders and institutional clients worldwide.
  • Grow your expertise in one of the fastest-growing areas of finance.

If you're excited by innovation, enjoy solving challenging analytical problems, and want your work to have a global impact, we'd love to hear from you.

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is naturally curious, intellectually driven, and excited by the opportunity to solve complex investment challenges. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills with an entrepreneurial mindset and enjoys turning ideas into impactful solutions.

You'll thrive in this role if you enjoy taking ownership, challenging the status quo, collaborating across teams, and influencing products that are used by some of the world's largest institutional investors.

What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years of experience in research, investment strategy, product development, or a similar role within asset management or financial services.
  • A proven ability to lead projects from idea to execution, making thoughtful decisions and driving results with minimal direction.
  • Experience improving processes, methodologies, or analytical tools—not just maintaining existing ones.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with a track record of building relationships across teams and contributing to broader business initiatives.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capability to simplify complex concepts into practical, actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with confidence engaging senior leaders, cross-functional partners, and institutional clients.
  • Hands-on experience using Python or R to analyze data, develop prototypes, and solve analytical problems.
  • A solid understanding of financial markets, investment data, and industry best practices.
Nice to Have
  • An advanced degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Experience working with Private Equity, Private Credit, Infrastructure, Real Estate, or other Private Assets.
  • Familiarity with index methodologies, investment benchmarks, or governance committee processes.
You'll Stand Out If You...
  • Love solving difficult analytical problems and asking \"what if?\"
  • Are energized by building new products rather than simply maintaining existing ones.
  • Enjoy collaborating with diverse teams while also working independently.
  • Can communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Want your work to influence the future of private markets investing on a global scale.
