“We’re dealing with very valuable data – its quality is on our shoulders.

Dániel has always had an interest in data analysis and its applications for solving complex problems. But it wasn’t until he enrolled in a Business Information Systems Master’s degree that he decided to make a career of it.

"During my bachelor studies it became clear to me that I didn't want to work only in the finance field but combine that knowledge with my data related technology skills. I wanted to find my own career path where I can use data to solve real-life challenges."

That’s when he came across an opportunity to join MSCI’s Budapest office as a Data Analyst Intern. It was exactly what he was looking for. From the very start of the interview process and all the way through his internship, Dániel felt genuinely valued and welcomed.

“It was so inclusive and international – my manager was based in Geneva, and some of the other interns in my team were from Azerbaijan and China, so it was interesting to get to know each other’s culture and way of life. Even people outside my team would come up to me for a chat because we have an open office where anyone can sit anywhere, even if you’re in a completely different department. Everyone was so helpful and friendly, they made me feel at home very quickly.”

After four months with us as an intern, Dániel was offered his first full-time position as a Financial Market Data Analyst on our Risk Manager solution team. In this role, he oversees and manages the time series data for various financial securities, managing our data coverage, adding new securities and managing client expectations.

“Recently, I was given the opportunity to take charge of a project where we had to find an automated solution to handling tens of thousands of time series coming from a data vendor. My manager trusted me to conduct the root cause analysis, and then gave me the freedom to explore a solution. I chose to use Python because it has many more possibilities than SQL for cleaning data, and my solution was ultimately deployed across all these time series.

Taking ownership of this project was a real win for Dániel. As he continues his career with us in data operations, he hopes to discover many more opportunities for learning.

“There’s a lot of room to grow your skills working on RiskManager because there’s such a wide variety of jobs to do. A database of this size generates a lot of opportunities to gain really worthwhile knowledge – so I still have a lot to learn in this position!”
