Your Team Responsibilities

MSCI is seeking to expand its Sustainability & Climate Solutions Specialists team in Tokyo, Japan. MSCI ESG Research is a leading provider of Sustainability & Climate data, models and tools to different capital markets participants globally. Successful candidates will have previous experience working in a client facing position in financial services and / or on a wide range of Sustainability and Climate topics (risk management, sustainability strategy, compliance, product creation, etc.) at financial institutions or consultancies covering financial institutions. They also exhibit a passion for these issues.

To succeed in the role a Solutions Specialist must have proven abilities to develop strong working relationships with external clients, learn MSCI Sustainability and Climate solutions and guide clients to better use those solutions in the context of each client’s specific requirements also leveraging other MSCI Analytics, Index or Private Assets solutions.

Solutions Specialists are adaptable, eager problem solvers, and able to lead cross-organization projects in highly diverse teams. Great communications skills are a must as they represent MSCI Sustainability and Climate to all levels of client management.

Your Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities cover a wide spectrum including proactive account management and client communication, account retention rates, contract value growth and pre-sales activities when needed. The Solution Specialist partners with the sales team, bringing further industry and product expertise to advanced client meetings. After a client has begun using MSCI Sustainability & Climate Research products, the Sustainability Specialist owns and manages the client’s experience. This entails offering proactive support, expertise in Sustainability & Climate services and usage, and participating in the client renewal process. Key responsibilities include:

  • Sustainability & Climate Expertise by acting as a trusted advisor for clients and their advocate within MSCI Sustainability & Climate Research
  • Drive revenue growth with outstanding client service and achieve target renewal rate
  • Serve as domain expert on MSCI’s suite of Sustainability & Climate products and service externally and internally
  • Leverage cutting edge MSCI solutions to deliver a holistic approach to clients’ Sustainability and Climate investing challenge
  • Proactively communicate and educate clients on key climate and sustainability matters, providing subject matter expertise in pre-sales/up-selling/on-boarding activities
  • Relationship Management Focus with achieving target renewal rate, drive revenue growth with outstanding client engagement and service
  • Develop/drive account management plans for all clients; Monitor and ensure client satisfaction. Conduct regular calls/visits with clients (health checks, training and workshops, relationship planning and review),
  • Identify at-risk accounts and develop a plan to ensure revenue and client retention, collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve issues promptly.
  • Act as liaison between the clients and internal MSCI Sustainability and Climate Research teams for key client initiatives
  • Take ownership for projects to help improve client service delivery and team efficiency
  • Communicate market requirements to internal business leaders
  • Attend relevant industry events

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

  • Good understanding of the Sustainability & Climate market and how Sustainability & Climate factors impact the investment process, due diligence and financing,risk management and reporting
  • 8+ years of experience, preferably in a client facing position in financial services or Responsible Investing
  • Excellent organizational, presentation and communication skills
  • Innovative, motivated, client-oriented and commercially aware thinker
  • Demonstrated project management skills - define scope, resources and timelines and manage to deliverables
  • A team player able to effectively manage the expectations of a diverse and demanding client base
  • Absolute personal and business integrity
  • Knowledge of the financial services industry is required
  • Experience integrating Climate or Sustainability for multiple asset classes (Equity, Fixed Income, private equity, infrastructure, private companies, real estate etc.) would be advantageous
