Women’s History Month celebrations 2023

Each year on March 8, the world comes together to celebrate International Women’s Day, a day that reminds us on the importance of embracing equity and making a difference. Throughout the month of March, MSCI’s Women’s Leadership Forum (WLF) and it’s local chapters organized over 20 events worldwide to commemorate this day.

Read about some of the key events that have taken place over the last few weeks:

APAC
The month kicked off in Hong Kong, with a fireside chat featuring Douglas Walls, Head of Index & Analytics Products in the APAC region. On the event he shared his insights on unconscious bias in the workplace, the importance of male allyship and the steps we all can take to ensure equity. The local WLF chapter in Tokyo organized a discussion centered around the „Gender Diversity in Japan Report 2022”, raising awareness of causes and effects the gender gap in the country. MSCI offices in India celebrated with a variety of workshops, networking events and quizzes highlighting topics such as breast cancer awareness and women’s contributions to prominent fields. Colleagues from our Hong Kong and Mumbai offices (along with colleagues in New York) also joined their local stock exchanges for bell ringing ceremonies organized for International Women’s Day.

AMERICAS
On March 20 Yie-Hsin Hung, President and CEO of State Street Global Advisors joined for a fireside chat on gender equity. As part of the event, titled „Fearless in the Face of Progress”, our New York office event welcomed a replica of the Fearless Girl statue. Other local WLF chapters in the region held celebrations as well: our colleagues in Chicago ahd the opportunity to participate in a wine tasting event highlighting local women-owned businesses, and our Boston office organized a visit to the Isntitute of Contemporary Art for a guided tour through exhibitions featuring female artists.

EMEA
The WLF chapter in Budapest hosted motivational session with guest speaker Anita Ugyan. As the first Hungarian female climber who reached the summit of Mount Everest, she shared how experiences help her overcome challanges in the day-to-day life. Our Frankfurt office welcomed Beatrix Anton-Grönemeyer, Chairwoman Advisory Board Enactus and Founding Member of the German division of 100 Women in Finance for a session titled “Fostering Diversity Through Talent Management”. The event was organized to shed light on how talent management can contribute to achieving gender equity. On the same day, our Zürich and Potsdam offices hosted a joint event, where Christa Gyori and Dr Tatiana Kazakova, Co-Founders of Leaders on Purpose, joined to share how each of them, in their own way, are breaking barriers and accelerating the progress toward a more equitable world.
